Hemoglobin (Hb)
A phone-attached hardware reader that quantifies hemoglobin from a drop of blood. The device is reagent-free and delivers a result in 10 seconds, at roughly 30–40% lower cost per test than incumbent point-of-care analysers such as HemoCue and DiAspect.
Working principle
Blood is collected into a specialised, reagent-free polymer cuvette built around identified hemoglobin absorption peaks. The cuvette clips into a small reader unit attached to the phone, which captures a quantitative result and logs it automatically — with no manual data entry and no operator judgement involved in the reading.
Technical specifications
| Sample type | Whole blood, collected directly into the proprietary cuvette |
| Method | Reagent-free optical read via a phone-attached hardware cuvette reader — no wet-chemistry consumable |
| Result time | 10 seconds to a quantitative readout |
| Accuracy | Correlation coefficient r = 0.97 (SD 0.52) against reference method |
| Cost Edge | 30–40% cheaper per test than HemoCue / DiAspect — the reagent-free cuvette removes the recurring consumable cost that drives their per-test economics |
| Localisation | ~75% local content (Make in India) |
| Connectivity | Digital, tamper-proof result capture; integrates with ABHA digital health records |
| Platform status | TRL 9 — commercial, revenue-generating |
Non-invasive pathway — ConjunctivaScan
A complementary, zero-contact method: hemoglobin is estimated from a 30-second video of the eye’s conjunctiva, with no blood draw and no consumables. Field-validated on 1,309+ labelled Indian subjects (cohort of 2,314) across Rajasthan and Maharashtra, benchmarked against venous blood draw and HemoCue reference hemoglobin, achieving 86% three-class accuracy for anemia severity triage. Together, the cuvette (precise, invasive) and ConjunctivaScan (non-invasive, mass-screening) give NeoDocs two Hb pathways — a combination no single competitor currently offers.
IP / regulatory: Advance-stage technology, TRL 9.
